Economy

Thailand is the second largest economy in Southeast Asia after Indonesia, and with an upper-middle income status, serves as an economic anchor for its developing neighbour countries. The country's economy appears resilient and is expected to advance at a moderate pace despite domestic political uncertainty. Main sectors of industry are manufacturing, agriculture, and electronics and technology. Thailand is also known as the assembly hub for international car brands.

Over the last four decades, Thailand has made remarkable and rapid progress in social and economic development, moving from a low-income to an upper-income country in less than a generation. Currently, the most developing and fast-rising industries are the financial services and tourism.

Thailand is particularly dependent on exports, which account for over two-thirds of its GDP. Still in the process of industrializing, this country has become the eighth largest economy in Asia, according to the World Bank. Thailand is also notable for having one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world. Although its urban population is also growing, Thailand is one of the world’s largest rice-growing nations.
